WARRINGTON Town's stunning win at Workington last night shows the club continuing to gather a head of steam in preparation for this weekend's mighty FA Cup battle with Gateshead.

Yellows, featuring a starting XI that will completely change at the Gateshead International Stadium, pulled off a 3-2 success at higher division Workington on their own patch.

Ash Ruane struck the winning goal in the 68th minute, taking Town's unbeaten run to five matches and taking them through to the last 16 of the Doodson Sport Cup.

Warrington's youngsters stepped up to the mark aided by several senior players and recent signings.

And they got off to a great start, despite the long haul into Cumbria on a freezing cold night.

James Colbeck opened the scoring after just four minutes and then added a second after 33 minutes.

The second from Colbeck, brought in from the Welsh Conference, followed skipper-for-the-night Chris Gahgan striking ther cross bar.

After all that good work, Workington struck a psychological blow by returning to a level keel before half time.

Two goals in three minutes from Alex Newby in front of a home crowd of 237 put Reds in the ascendancy for the second half.

But daring Town had not read the script, the one that Workington had relayed in advance of the tie that they wanted to win the competition.

And the Cumbrians were consigned to only their second loss in 11 outings when Ruane finished them off with Town's third goal in the 68th minute.

Town: Robbie Johnson, Liam Turner, William Beesley, Chris Bibby, Alex Hardman, Niall Ford, Chris Gahgan (c), Louis Corrigan, Ash Ruane, James Colbeck, Chris Bandell. Subs: Josh Hayes, Ben Collins, Oscar Durnin, Matthew Hadley.
