WARRINGTON Town’s FA Cup heroes face a long away trip in the competition’s second round.

The Yellows, ball number eight, have been drawn away at Vanarama Conference side Gateshead on the weekend of December 6.

It means a journey to the North East for Warrington’s giant-killers to face the Tynesiders at the Gateshead International Stadium, with the hosts sitting third in the fifth-tier of English football.

Town, who have already played eight games to reach this stage, will appear in the competition’s second round for the first time in their 65-year history.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, at Cantilever Park to witness Town’s victory on Friday night, was on hand to pick the balls from the hat along with Jason Craven of community club West End AFC.

Craig Robinson scored the winner against League Two outfit Exeter City, sparking mass celebrations and a pitch invasion from a majority of the 2,400-strong crowd at the final whistle.

The Grecians sat 100 places and four divisions above Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North outfit Warrington, who have since dropped to 19th in the table with several games in hand.

The seventh-minute winner on Friday leaves Shaun Reid’s side, the lowest ranked club still in the competition, 90 minutes from a potential glamour tie against one of the country’s Premier League giants.

Boss Reid, Town chairman Toby Macormac and goal scorer Robinson were present at the National Football Museum in Manchester for the draw.

And having defied the odds by beating higher-ranked sides on four occasions, what’s to stop Town’s part-timers dreaming of a trip to Old Trafford, Anfield or Stamford Bridge?
