WARRINGTON Town’s FA Cup run could be worth more than £100,000 to the club.

The Yellows will pocket £67,500 after their first round tie with League Two Exeter City, which was chosen by BBC Two to be broadcast live on Friday night.

With qualification for the first round alone worth £12,500 in prize money, the club have already made £29,425 for making it through five stages.

“For us to get a live television game at home against a Football League club is brilliant,” explained chairman Toby Macormac.

“I’ve said it before but you can’t go out and buy this exposure. We’ve been absolutely inundated and the way it has been embraced by people who may not have been down before is fantastic.”

Friday’s game at Cantilever Park is a 2,500 sell-out, while Town have experienced higher than average gates in the previous rounds.

FA rules on minimum ticket pricing for the competition means the club have had to raise prices to £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for under 16s.

An upset on Friday would see another £18,000 heading in the Yellows’ direction, plus the potential for further television exposure.

However, even if they lose at this stage the cup run has provided a massive windfall, one Macormac is keen to reinvest.

“We’ve got some stuff going in the community in partnership with Everton at the moment,” he added. “Maybe we can expand that community project.

“We’ll also look at doing some ground alterations and improvements.”

Town’s manager, Shaun Reid, is hoping the club can build on the interest generated by the club’s debut first round appearance.

“We knew there was going to be interest, but from what I’ve heard we could have sold out three times over,” he said.

“It proves that, if this football club can be successful, then there are enough interested people in the town for us and the rugby club.”

Warrington Town Supporters’ Club chairman Rob Wood added: “We have played Liverpool and Everton in the County Cup but they always put the kids out.

“I can’t see Exeter doing that, I remember them losing 3-2 to Curzon Ashton, so if they’ve beat them then we can too.

“I wouldn’t mind a draw, obviously a win would be brilliant, but I’ve never been to Exeter’s ground and enjoy seeing different stadiums.”
