WORK has already started for manager Shaun Reid as Warrington Town look to build on one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history.

Ending the campaign in third place was not enough for the Yellows to gain promotion, but did equal their highest ever finish in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North.

“I have a list of players to look at and pre-season friendlies to organise, so this job never stops,” said the boss.

“People talk about part-time football but you have to give it all of your time. Hopefully by doing that we will improve again and get what we deserve.

“I will be sitting down with each of the boys and sorting everything for next year. After the disappointment has gone, they will realise what a great club they are at and it’s only going one way.”

Town topped the table for large parts of the campaign, going 17 matches unbeaten before slipping into the play-off spots and losing the semi final to Bamber Bridge on April 29.

Reid believes the squad, and himself, can learn from the fine margins that cost them this season.

“We fell a bit short,” he added. “If you learn from it and the players learn from it then next season they know the parameters they have to work at.

“We have spent more time at the top of the league than any other club this season, which tells me we are on the right track.

“I look at myself as well. Maybe it was time to change things, when you have gone 17 games unbeaten people would say you shouldn’t change.

“But we have to be brave to win, the best time to improve is when you’re on top – it’s one thing that will stick with me.”
