SHAUN Reid may have allowed his players a rest last weekend, but the manager is confident his Warrington Town side will be ready for a battle when Curzon Ashton visit this weekend.

Reid gave his table-topping Yellows side a weekend off after their home fixture with Ossett Albion was postponed, meaning Saturday will mark a fortnight since they beat Kendal Town.

The latest clash with Curzon is the result of a rearranged tie that was abandoned with Town 2-0 up, but Reid is taking nothing for granted.

“We had a lot of games in a short space of time on heavy pitches, so the break probably came at the right time,” he said.

“I was the nicest boss in the world giving them the weekend off; the conditions were not suitable for any technical work, it was better to have a day off ready for the biggest game of the season so far.

“They know they will be working their socks off in training, they’ll be prepared for that, then on Thursday we can work on the technical and tactical things.

“The game is about winners and my side is full of winners; we’ll go about it our way, the players will apply themselves correctly and hopefully win their individual battles.”

However, Reid is playing the clash down as a title decider, and feels several sides still have a shot at finishing first in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s Division One North..

He added: “Curzon are a decent side who play decent football, so it will be a tough game because it’s two teams with contrasting styles.

“If we win we’ll go seven points clear of them and still have to play them again, but don’t forget Farsley and Darlington. I think any of the top five teams have a chance of winning the title.

“But this is the results end of the season and I expect my players to step up to the plate. We’ll be physical and hard to beat.

“There might be a bit of tinkering but as the home team on Saturday we’ll let them worry about us and the threat we’ll pose.”

Kick off on Saturday is 3pm.

* SUPPORTERS can pay what they want to see the table-topping tussle between Warrington Town and Curzon Ashton this Saturday.

A failure to provide supporters with tickets to the new date on the night the original fixture was abandoned has led to Yellows opting for a ‘pay what you want day’.

In a statement, Warrington Town managing director Toby Macormac said: “That night the club should have issued tickets to the people in attendance but unfortunately due to the complications on the night this obligation was not fulfilled.

“This Saturday many people will attend the match who previously were unable to do so and the club, like many others, have match-day overheads to cover from officials and stewards to catering which could possibly be for more than the previous 348 people that attended.

“With this in mind the club has taken the decision to amend the admission fee.

“This enables all the people who attended previously to enter the match for free and those that did not he option of contributing to the match-day overheads.”
