A HOST of current young players to have featured with Warrington Schoolboys and/or Warrington Town Youth are flying the flag for the borough.

Danny Bruce, who contributed to Town’s North West Youth Association title win last season, is no stranger to representative football and is currently figuring in the English Schools’ FA under 18s squad.

He missed Town’s cup final win last year due to an appearance for the Independent Schools’ FA.

Bruce will be in the squad for Sunday’s home match with Macclesfield Town but missed the weekend’s away defeat to Hyde because he played for England against Australia.

He will feature too in the annual Centenary Shield competition against the other home nations.

He also figured the day before in Cheshire’s defeat to Devon in the FA County Youth Cup quarter final.

The 17-year-old has appeared in a handful of North West Counties Premier Division games this term for Congleton Town.

Town’s youth team manager Chris Wells keeps a track of the talents, now aged 18 to 20, that have come through the ranks.

Also making headlines is Matt Pennington, who has been on loan from Everton to Tranmere since New Year’s Day.

The 19-year-old has now played three full games in League One at right back.

Jack Rudge is back from an injury and currently in Manchester United’s under 21s squad.

Tom Corcoran is doing well in the USA Colleges League.

Jack Cookson and Oscar Durnin are playing for Stalybridge Celtic reserves, and have appeared on the bench for the first team in the Skrill North.

Front man Dominic Marie is now at Winsford United in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Another forward, Tom Peers, still an under 18s player, started for Chester in the Conference on Saturday.

Scott Bakkor transferred from Clitheroe to Witton Albion a few weeks ago and is now a contract player there.

Oliver Wells started training with Ryman League Premier Division club Wingate and Finchley – at under 21s level – this week.

Some are still doing the business in Warrington.

Goalkeeper Josh Cook has played an important role with Warrington Town’s first team this season, but is currently with the reserves.

Manwhile Dylan Glass, Sam Houghton and Chris Bandell played against Tranmere in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup first round for the senior team last week.

Glass scored in a 3-1 defeat.
