Warrington Town 4 Wakefield 0

A CLEAN sheet and growing fanbase delighted Warrington Town boss Shaun Reid during his side’s convincing home win against Wakefield on Saturday.

Ben Wharton opened the scoring for the Yellows, before Scott Metcalfe, Carlos Meakin and Liam Dawson strikes after the break.

Reid was pleased with the 250-strong crowd, who held a minute’s applause for lifelong fan Rick Parkins who died aged 37 recently. Rick’s son Thomas led out the teams.

“We want to build a community club and they are built with the supporters in mind,” said Reid. “In this league, outside of Darlington, I think we have probably the best fanbase.

“When I took over it was 110 to 120, on Saturday we had around 250. The people of Warrington are rallying around, it’s their football club and they want to see us do well.”

Metcalfe sprung the offside trap after six minutes to give Wharton a tap in, but it took until the hour mark for him to turn scorer and double Town’s lead.

On-loan keeper Josh Ollerenshaw’s quick throw sent Ciaran Kilheeney clear and he crossed for Metcalfe to finish.

Meakin glanced into the net from Liam Dawson’s free kick to make it three, before Dawson added his name to the scoresheet in the 89th minute.

“I love keeping clean sheets,” added Reid. “We’ve trained hard on attacking as a team and defending as a team.

“What’s good about us is we look like we’ve got goals all over the pitch.”
