WARRINGTON Town boss Shaun Reid is demanding his players take a professional approach to the Christmas period to keep their title hopes alive.

The Yellows sit four points clear of Curzon Ashton, who have three games in hand, heading into a hectic festive spell with five games in two weeks.

The congested period includes a Boxing Day trip to Reid’s former employers Prescot Cables, where he is confident his players will not be suffering from over-indulgence.

“They’ve got to take a bit of responsibility over this period,” he said. “We want to win the title and they’ve got to try and be professional about it – in fact I’m demanding they are.

“If you’ve got a chance of winning the championship you don’t want to give it up because of a few drinks, you want that winner’s medal.”

Town host Harrogate Railway on Saturday and Reid is confident his side can bounce back from defeats to Darlington 1883 and Lancaster City.

“I want to go on another 17-game unbeaten run,” said the ex-Rochdale midfielder. “If we can do that now then come April we’ll be proving a difficult side to play against.

“You’re not going to go every game without losing, we won 15 and drew two and they’re the only two to beat us. I’d be happy after this if we went another 17 unbeaten.”

Reid is also looking to bolster a Town defence that has conceded 10 goals in four games.

“In the last couple of weeks we’ve been conceding goals, so we need to improve,” he explained.

“I can’t be too down on the players, I just think they need a bit of help and if I bring in the players I’m interested in then we’ll go on from there.

“The one thing I’m not afraid of is making decisions, sometimes you have to do it for the good of the football club.

“We need to improve on those two performances, but we’re still top of the league so must be doing something right.”
