Shaun strengthens squad
INJURIES forced Shaun Reid’s hand in the transfer market this week, but the boss believes his new arrivals will create a healthy competition for places in the Warrington Town squad.
The Yellows welcomed 22-year-old Aaron Bowen from Barrow on a month’s loan, John McKenna from Colywn Bay and former Chester midfielder Steve Beck.
Beck and Bowen were thrust straight into the Town side against Padiham on Saturday alongside Tony Evans, on his return from Northwich Victoria.
And Reid is confident Town’s recent additions have added depth to his squad.
“I’m very pleased with who we have brought in,” he said. “I’ve got 20 players now so it’s up to them to do the job and show me I can’t drop them.
“They have to be patient and take their chances. They all start on the same level in my eyes and they have to prove their worth on the pitch.
“It’s not just about 11, it’s about a squad of 20 players and there is going to be disappointment for some along the way – if we have the mentality to accept that then we will be ok.”
Despite being without the injured Ciaran Kilheeney and top scorer Ben Wharton, Town hit seven past Padiham with debutant Beck and the returning Ashley Ruane on the scoresheet.
However, with Evans also occupying a forward spot and the possible addition of another striker this week, Reid now has several options in attack.
“We’ve got Ciaran and Ben to come back and Ruane has just recovered from an injury, so they are all looking for a place,” he explained.
“The difficult thing is keeping them all happy, but we’re here to win football matches.”
Town visit Salford on Saturday, kick off 3pm, before hosting Cammell Laird on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
