Yellows see red as FA Cup dream ended by Ossett

WARRINGTON Town’s FA Cup run came to an end after an extra time defeat to Ossett Town on Tuesday.
Chris Gaghan gave the Yellows an early lead, but Christopher Wood’s equaliser sent the game to added time and Ossett scored twice to progress from a fixture that saw Warrington boss Shaun Reid and players Scott Metcalfe and Peter Dogan sent off.
Reid was already without top goalscorer Ben Wharton, who suffered a fractured arm in the first tie on Saturday.
On eight minutes Metcalfe ran on to Ciaran Kilheeney’s throw and crossed for Gaghan to fire home the opener.
Ossett levelled on the half hour when Wood was able to turn James McCarten out wide and run along the touchline before squeezing a shot past Josh Cook into the far corner.
The hosts were fortunate not to fall behind when James Eyles snuck in and watched David Mannix’s clearance ricochet off Craig Robinson and onto the crossbar.
And on the hour mark the Yellows were reduced to 10 men, Metcalfe booked for a foul on Steven Jeff and minutes later shown red for an off-the-ball incident at an Ossett corner.
Despite the sending off, Warrington enjoyed the better of the second half chances as substitute Liam Dawson had a half volley blocked and then dragged an effort narrowly wide.
As the game entered extra time Phil Mooney was denied one-on-one and moments later Craig Robinson was forced to clear in a goalmouth scramble.
From the resulting corner, Ossett centre back Richard Patterson headed past Cook and as Warrington protested the award of the corner Dogan was handed his second caution and Reid was dismissed from the touchline.
Connor Millington spurned an opportunity to bring nine-man Warrington level when he shot wide and, as the Yellows continued to press for an equaliser, Ossett scored a breakaway third through Kyle Hawthorne.
Town will likely be without the dismissed trio for Ramsbottom United’s visit on Saturday as well as the injured Wharton, who has scored eight times this season.
