Warrington teams struggle to stop Knutsford running away with league

KNUTSFORD’S reign at the top of the Cheshire Football League shows no signs of faltering after they recorded their tenth consecutive league victory with a 1-0 win over Grappenhall Sports.

Rylands could only manage a 0-0 draw with Middlewich Town, as their boss David Parr’s return to his former stomping ground failed to offer anything other than strong defences on both sides.

The result means they climb to fifth in the division, though they still trail local rivals Eagle Sports by two points.

In the reserve division, leaders Greenalls PSO were held to a 3-3 draw with Billinge, as goals from Gary Fox and Paul Benns, two, were not quite enough to secure the points.

They are trailed in the league by Linotype, who delivered a 5-1 thumping of Grappenhall Sports to round off a miserable weekend for the team from Grappers.

Rylands moved up to sixth place as they beat Poynton 4-2 at home, taking the lead through Ben Warder before extra strikes from Josh Blenkinsop and Josh Green made it 3-0 at the break.

A determined Poynton replied in style, but Rylands sealed the game through Karl Taylor’s strike on 77 minutes.
