WARRINGTON Schoolboys under 13s team booked their place in a national showpiece final against Barnet with an impressive 2-0 success in Peterborough on Saturday.
Now both finalists are bidding to stage the showdown. The current team is the first from Warrington to reach the English Schools FA Under 13s Inter Association Final - a fantastic achievement with the competition starting out with 168 teams nationwide.
Warrington secured their spot in the final the hard way, making a three-and-a-half-hour journey to Peterborough after a 7.15am start.
But the long trip did not impact on Warrington’s performance as the team dominated the first period.
Few chances were created but the strong back four of Nathaniel McCarrol, Liam O’Neill, Nathan Platts and Liam Lambert stopped everything that came their way.
Warrington continued at 100 miles per hour at the start of the second half, chasing every ball and tackling everything in sight.
They got their reward.
A great pass put Callum Wallace through on goal and he slotted home across the keeper.
Five minutes later Scott Burgess hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards over the keeper’s head and into the roof of the net.
Warrington never looked like conceding after that as they closed the game down.
The midfield dynamo of Scott Burgess and Josh Hayes ran themselves into the ground, Callum Spencer and Nathan Butler were tremendous between the sticks, while up front George Cooper and Romario Dunne frightened the Peterborough back four throughout and wide men Daniel Cockerline and Callum Wallace tormented their markers.
Warrington squad: Nathan Butler, Nathan Platts, Ben Collins, Liam Heath (all Great Sankey High School), Callum Spencer, Elliott Auton, Ben Herriman (all Birchwood High School), Nat McCarroll, George Cooper, Chris Murphy (all St Gregorys High School), Liam Lambert, Ben Curry, Charlie Morris (all Culcheth High School), Liam O’Neill, Jo Thredgold (both William Beamont High School), Daniel Cockerline, Callum Wallace, Romario Dunne (all Bridgewater High School), Scott Burgess, Josh Hayes (both Penketh High School).
