Stourbridge 2 Warrington Town 1

YELLOWS surrendered second place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after losing to Stourbridge on the final day of the regular season.

Paul Carden's side needed only a point to secure the runners-up spot, but their slip-up and Ashton United's victory at Workington allowed the Robins to finish above them on goal difference.

Town will now face Grantham in their play-off semi-final at Cantilever Park on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

Carden picked a strong side and they made the perfect start by taking an early lead.

Mekhi Leacock-McLeod's low ball across the box was turned home for the opener by Joe Piggott.

It looked as if Yellows would carry that lead into the break, but they were hit with a double sucker-punch in the two minutes before the interval.

First, Leon Broadhurst was left unmarked to head home a corner before Luke Shearer's cross was cheekily flicked past Yellows stopper Luke Pilling by Luke Benbown.

Town put the hosts under pressure late on, but it proved in vain as they slipped to defeat.
