YELLOWS’ winless run continued as they played out a dour goalless draw with Nantwich Town at Cantilever Park.

In fact, Paul Carden’s side were indebted to goalkeeper Luke Pilling for three key saves to preserve a point.

It proved a valuable one as third-placed Grantham fell to another defeat at Lancaster, but Ashton in fourth and Farsley in fifth both gained ground behind them.

The visitors, buoyed by their 2-1 win over Yellows in Saturday’s reverse fixture, made the brighter start as Warrington struggled to get going.

Former Yellows winger Joe Mwasile was looking lively down the right wing, cutting inside before seeing his shot blocked.

Town struggled to create and the closest they came was when Jamie McDonald wriggled free inside the area, but his pull-back was behind strike partner Joe Piggott.

In fact, it was the Dabbers that created the half’s two clearest openings within seconds of each other.

Jordan Davies found himself in behind Jack Higgins but Pilling saved his effort, before the cross back into the area reached the same player but he blazed over the bar.

Town improved in the early stages of the second half, with Piggott firing a shot straight at Dabbers stopper Myles Boney before Higgins headed a set piece just wide.

However, they still struggled for cohesion and Nantwich were able to resume control.

They had a strong penalty appeal waved away for a challenge from Sean Williams, but they too found creating clear-cut openings tricky.

Piggott stabbed wide after a free kick fell for him as both sides huffed and puffed, before McDonald headed straight at Boney after Higgins flicked Rory McKeown’s long throw into his path.

Nantwich then had a golden chance on the counter-attack when Toby Mullarkey was released through the middle, but Pilling raced out to deny him.

The on-loan Tranmere stopper was in action again moments later when Mwasile released Caspar Hughes, but the Wales under 21 international made another crucial save.

That sparked the game into life and when Boney made a poor punch and was caught off his line, Will Hayhurst’s effort beat him but was cleared off the line.

Mehki Leacock-McLeod then plundered a volley straight at Boney as the game finished frantically.
