WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden has called upon the Northern Premier League to re-think their fixture schedule, describing the current arrangements as “a shambles.”

The cold and wet weather throughout winter has seen Evo-Stik Premier Division games regularly postponed, with Yellows’ trip to Whitby Town on Saturday one of four games to be called off over the Easter weekend.

That trip was initially rescheduled for Thursday, April 26, just two days after Town are slated to travel to Grantham Town and 48 hours before their final game of the regular season at Stourbridge.

The Whitby game has now been switched to Thursday, April 12, but Carden has called upon the league to completely overhaul each team’s schedule.

“I think the league need to liven themselves up over these fixtures,” he said.

“From my point of view, I don’t know why they don’t just rip them all up now and start again. They might as well give everyone a fresh set of fixtures.

“What was scheduled for us for the final week of the season, to be making three long trips, was not right.

“It’s been a freak season, the wettest season I’ve ever known, but the league have got to step up now.

“They put the refreshed fixtures up on the website but took them down as teams were complaining.

“From our point of view, it just needs sorting out quickly because it’s starting to look a bit of a shambles.

“Maybe some of the shorter Saturday journeys can be moved to midweek to allow for the distances to be travelled on Saturdays.

“Games are being scheduled here, there and everywhere and then being moved. It’s just a mess.”
