FORMER Warrington Schoolboys footballer George Cooper enjoyed a superb debut for his new club just two days after joining.

Last week, the 21-year-old midfielder left Crewe Alexandra, whose academy he came through to make his Football League debut, to join League One side Peterborough United for a reported six-figure transfer fee.

He came off the bench to make his Posh debut in their home game against Oldham Athletic on Saturday and it did not take him long to make an impact.

Six minutes after entering the fray, Cooper scored the second of his new side’s three goals as he helped them to a 3-0 victory at London Road.

That came just two days after he joined the club as he aims to take the next step in what looks like a promising career.

“When I heard of the interest from Peterborough, I was keen to get things sorted,” he told the club’s official website.

“I know all about the club, they like to attack and score goals and hopefully I can help that.

“My target is to train well and try and get into the side, but there are a lot of good players here.

“I am only 21, but I have played a lot of games for my age and I like to be creative, I want to assist goals and I want to score goals.

Sadly, Cooper will miss his new side’s FA Cup clash with Premier League side Leicester City as he has already played in the competition for Crewe.
