WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden says their fixture backlog is a sign of the team’s progress but is wary of it stalling their momentum.

Yellows have seen their past two scheduled games postponed due to waterlogged pitches – Saturday’s Evo-Stik Premier Division clash with Hednesford Town and Monday’s Cheshire Senior Cup trip to Winsford United.

As well as the weather, Town’s progress in the FA Trophy has also seen the need for games to be rearranged.

“It can affect your momentum. That’s always a situation you don’t want to happen,” he said.

“We can’t control the weather though! We gave the lads the weekend off to fully recover from the Ebbsfleet game and we’ve been able to have a full preparation for Altrincham now.

“If we want to be successful, we have to accept that we’ll play a lot of games.

“Even if we don’t progress any further in the cups, we’ll still have played more than most of our rivals.

“We have played more than our fair share of games, but I’m happy to do that as it means we’re progressing.”

Yellows’ squad is on the small side at present and Carden says he always has half an eye on bringing players in to boost numbers.

However, he is more concerned with making sure any potential new additions do not upset the harmony within the dressing room.

“Things are bubbling away in terms of bringing players in,” he said.

“Because the squad’s so tight at the minute, anyone that comes in has to be the right person as well as being the right player.

“Will Hayhurst has been brilliant in that respect. He’s not loud but he’s fitted in really well and his work rate has been superb.

“Devarn Green is the same before he got injured. I don’t want to be bringing players in willy nilly just because the squad needs more bodies.

“They have to be the right fit for what we already have. We’ve gone through enough players this season to realise that.

“I’d sooner be a little bit light for a while if it meant we got the right player in the end.”
