Buxton 2 Warrington Town 1

YELLOWS’ struggled in midweek again as they fell to defeat at Buxton on Tuesday night.

Despite Jamie McDonald’s first-half equaliser, Paul Carden’s men dropped points in a midweek game for the sixth time this season.

Liam Hardy, the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s top goalscorer, and Ant Wilson scored for the hosts at Silverlands as Warrington lost on the road for just the second time this campaign.

Midway through the first half, Yellows fell behind when Hardy was played through the middle and he beat Tony McMillan to score his 14th goal of the season.

However, Carden’s side were behind for just 10 minutes as McDonald latched onto Abou Sanogo’s knockdown and found the net for the second time since joining from City of Liverpool last month.

McMillan was forced into a save to stop Hardy from doubling his tally just before half time, but the sides turned around level.

Josh Hine had an effort deflected onto the crossbar after the break before another weakness came back to haunt Yellows.

This time it was set-pieces that again proved their downfall as a Buxton corner was turned home by Wilson.

Rory McKeown’s free kick then found the net for Town, but the referee ruled it out for a foul on a Buxton defender.

Substitute Connor Hughes then looped a header onto the crossbar as Yellows pressed for an equaliser, but Buxton held on.

Warrington Town: McMillan, Goulding, McKeown, Gumbs, McCarten, Higgins, Hine, Williams, McDonald, Sanogo (Hughes), Bakkor (Barrigan). Subs not used: Adam Carden, Richards, Kinsella.
