WARRINGTON Town Reserves have resigned from the Cheshire Football League.

Having won promotion last season, the team had made a solid start to life in the Premier Division and had lost just three games this campaign.

However, after the departure of several players and coaches, the decision has been taken to fold the team.

Yellows chairman Toby Macormac explained the reasons behind the decision.

“This decision was not taken lightly given the amount of investment over five years taking it from League Two to a Step Seven position,” he told the Guardian.

“Recently two of the three management members decided to step down from their positions for various reasons, some of which were personal, some also linked to decisions I make within the business.

“Football moves very quickly and a potential position arose at another club, which led to six players leaving us immediately.

“We found our player list dilapidated even further with the departure of two more players for reasons outside of the immediate, and also the end of the first four week partnership with a Football League Club.

“These reasons coupled with further injuries to the first team squad taking away the option of reserve team minutes left me no option but fold the team.”

The teams’ final fixture was a 3-2 defeat to League One outfit Egerton in the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup on October 7.

Macormac, who says remaining players have been found clubs to play for, says work is already underway for a potential solution.

“If we recruited players from the local area, this would have just handed our problem to another local established team and my club does not work like that,” he said.

“It also does not take players back who, at the drop of hat, turned their back on it.

“We spoke to many people in trying to rectify the situation, which includes trying to fill the gap between Step Seven and Step Three football, which we found near impossible.

“It was with all the above concerns that the decision was taken to end our tenure in the Cheshire Football League.

“I have found clubs for the remaining players and I thank all those involved in the running of the team over the seasons.

“I’m already working on development ideas to take us forward once more.”
