WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden says games “do not come much bigger at this stage” than their clash with Altrincham tomorrow, Saturday, kick off 3pm.

The game at Cantilever Park sees the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s top two square off, with the Robins leading Yellows and Shaw Lane on goal difference.

Carden admits tomorrow’s visitors are “the biggest club in the league” but says his side know all about the threats they bring and will be equipped to deal with them.

“It doesn’t get much bigger, especially at this stage of the season,” he said.

“The league title or promotion isn’t secured in October, but we are where we wanted to be.

“Altrincham are the biggest club in the league. They’ve had a fall from grace but it was only a matter of time before they got their season up and running.

“We know all about their players. They have a lot of National League standard players and they try to play good football.

“They’ve had some really good results, but so have we.

“It’s going to make for a good game. It will be physical but good on the eye.”

Carden was hoping to have striker Tony Gray available after a hamstring injury but admits the game comes “a bit too soon” for the 32-year-old.

He joins the likes of Dylan Vassallo, Brad Barnes, Shaun Beeley and Liam Hynes on the sidelines, while Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson is said to have a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Carden says Yellows will have to “go with what they have” against the league leaders.

“I believe ourselves and Altrincham have the two best squads in the league,” Carden said.

“I’m a bit disappointed we haven’t got everybody fit for the game, but that’s the way it is.

“It will probably be a week too soon for Tony Gray, so it will be a case of us going with what we’ve got.

“We’re waiting on results for Dylan’s scan, Brad Barnes’ situation hasn’t changed and Beels (Shaun Beeley) and Liam (Hynes) are long term.”

Yellows go into the game on the back of a 3-2 win at Colwyn Bay in the Integro League Cup on Tuesday, a game in which Carden made 11 changes to his side.

Before that, a goal from substitute Abou Sanogo earned them a 1-0 league win at Barwell on Saturday.

Town return to Cantilever Park after three successive away games in all competitions and the Yellows boss hopes the people of Warrington turn out to support their team.

While praising the club’s existing support, Carden says increased attendances are needed for the club to grow.

“We obviously have a hardcore of supporters, who turn out through thick and thin and in all weather and are absolutely great,” he said.

“You can always hear our fans, no matter how outnumbered they are, but it would be nice for them to be backed up by more coming to show their support.

“We want to make the club as big as it can be, and that’s only going to happen if fans turn up and support their local side. We need that.”
