PAUL Carden has called on his Warrington Town side to continue the momentum gained from back-to-back wins against a “dangerous” Whitby Town today, kick off 3pm.

Yellows have climbed back up to second in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after Tuesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Lancaster City, which followed a 2-1 win at Rushall Olympic on Saturday.

Carden praised his side’s response to the 5-1 home reverse to Stourbridge on September 26 and says Whitby will be facing a team “full of form and confidence” at Cantilever Park.

“Saturday is now the most important game because of what the lads have done in the last two,” he said.

“Whitby are dangerous because we know the quality they’ve got, even if they’ve been a bit indifferent.

“They have to come here and face a side who are in form and full of confidence, though.

“The big thing for me is how we have bounced back from Stourbridge, but we need to continue it.”

Yellows go into the game without midfielder Brad Barnes, who has a rib injury.

Barnes’ injury led to Carden bringing Tranmere Rovers’ Evan Gumbs back to the club on loan.

While he impressed at centre-half during his first spell last season, Gumbs made his second debut in a holding midfield role against Lancaster and Carden was impressed with how the 21-year-old coped.

He said bringing Gumbs back to Cantilever Park was “a no-brainer.”

“Every time we get one player back, we get another injury at the moment!” he said.

“Brad Barnes is going to miss a few weeks, he’s been playing with a cracked rib and I think it’s been showing in his game. He’ll be the first to admit that, as well.

“When the opportunity to take Evan came up, it was a no-brainer because he’s such a good player.

“He’s everything we want in a player because he’s so determined and he’s never beaten.

“Putting him in front of the back four made us really solid against Lancaster. He broke up play, won headers and was everything we know he is.”

Another man to make an impact on Town is new striker Jamie McDonald, who marked his home debut with the fifth and final goal on Tuesday night.

That came after he grabbed two assists on Saturday and Carden says the 24-year-old frontman has been “a breath of fresh air.”.

“Jamie won’t get tired of running to scare defenders. He looks like he could blow over in the wind but he never goes down,” he said.

“He’s also never offside and that’s massive in the game as it’s a cheap way out for the defence.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air and I look forward to pairing him with Tony Gray when he gets back.”

Gray (hamstring) and Dylan Vassallo (back) are missing but Shaun Beeley, who scored the winner at Rushall before sitting out the Lancaster game, looks set to return from an eye injury to start at right-back.

To mark the annual Non-League Day, Yellows are offering "pay what you want" admission for today's game, with a minimum contribution of £1.
