WARRINGTON Town manager Paul Carden has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

The Yellows have moved to tie Carden, who has guided them to second place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, to a contract which keeps him at Cantilever Park until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Due to Town’s impressive start to the season, Carden was linked with the managers’ position at National League outfit Chester, a team he captained during his playing days.

However, the 38-year-old says he was all too happy to commit to Warrington.

“I was delighted with the commitment the club showed in me, so I just want to get on with the job,” he said.

“There was a bit of talk a few weeks ago about Chester. I phoned Toby (Macormac, Yellows chairman) up as soon as they got in touch and said I didn’t want to go anywhere.

“It was a commitment from both of us because we both believe in the direction the club’s going and where we want to take it.

“We’re both working as hard as we can, along with the other staff, to make sure the club gets to where we think it can go.”

Carden is approaching 12 months in charge of Yellows having taken over the role on October 26 last year.

He praised the backing he has had from Macormac during his time with the club.

“The backing has never not been there, but I think he knows we as a staff work hard to,” he said.

“He realises that we don’t just turn our backs on things. We take care of the detail because the little things make the big things happen.

“We hope we can deliver the success everyone at this club deserves.”
