A FOOTBALL team featuring players from Warrington will feature in the Disability FA Cup Final at the National Football Centre at St George’s Park tomorrow, Saturday.

Cerebral Palsy United Football Club’s adult section will take on Chelsea in the competition’s showpiece for the second successive year.

John Foster from Glazebrook and Reiss Blackwell from Rixton are in the CPUFC squad, while Callum Thornhill from Chapelford is one of the team's volunteer coaches.

Formed in 2014, Cerebral Palsy United was originally based in Manchester but has since expanded across the north west and has a centre at Orford Jubilee Hub in Warrington.

The club work in partnership with local county FAs as well as the Warrington Wolves Foundation.

Recently the club received a donation from the Warrington Rotary Club to support the ongoing operational costs.

CPUFC are open to any individual with cerebral palsy, either from birth or an acquired illness.

Foster, 26, qualifies through an acquired brain injury from when he fell off a motorbike as a teenager.

He was part of the Manchester City disability programme.

Since joining Cerebral Palsy United in 2015 he has been the league’s top goal scorer two seasons running and has been called into the England development squad on the last two occasions.

He has become part of a potent attacking unit for CP United.

Blackwell, 19, he is a right-sided hemiplegic.

He has been involved in Cerebral Palsy United for three seasons.

The tough tackling all-round midfielder has been pivotal in the success of the team over the past two seasons.

Reiss has an exceptional passing range and regularly chips in with goals from midfield.

He was quickly identified as a star player which has seen him represent England on a number of occasions.

Thornhill, 23, came on board with coaching in 2015.

He passed his FA Level One coaching badge last year and is on the pathway to the Level Two qualification.

He is an integral part of an experienced coaching team and is yet to taste defeat in a fixture since becoming involved within the club.

They are all set to play a part in a final which is the start of several events involving CP United that will culminate in international participation in the FECP International Trophy in Barcelona next month.

Head coach, founder and former Warrington and District League player Sean Bailey said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the club to really cement ourselves as the standout disability football club in the country following last season's treble success.

"All occasions such as this support the development of the club, each individual and the game as a whole, but without doubt we are going there to win!”

The club is currently without a shirt sponsor and seeking commercial interest to support the continued growth and development.
