Matlock Town 1 Warrington Town 1

WARRINGTON Town finished their first ever season in the Evo-Stik Premier Division by sharing the spoils at Matlock Town.

Michael Bakare had given Yellows the lead, but they had to contest the whole second half with ten men after Mitch Duggan was sent off.

Curtis Morrison equalised for the hosts, but Paul Carden’s side secured a point that sees them end the campaign in 10th.

Yellows lost skipper James McCarten to a facial injury early on but took the lead midway through the half.

Dylan Vassallo released Bakare, whose initial shot was kept out by Gladiators stopper Phil Barnes but the rebound fell nicely for him to slot home.

Marc Newsham had a goal ruled out for the hosts before Duggan’s rough challenge on Michael Williams earned him a straight red card.

This left Warrington up against it but they managed to hold on to end the first half in front.

After the break, the impressive Bakare forced a good save from Barnes in a rare Warrington break before Matlock’s leveller arrived just after the hour.

Dwayne Wiley flicked a corner into the path of Morrison, who steered home from close range.

Matlock pushed for a winner, but Yellows held out for a hard-earned point.
