Warrington Town 1 Ashton United 1
WARRINGTON Town say their Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off chances mathematically ended as they could only manage a draw with Ashton United.
In their final home game of the season, substitute Michael Bakare rescued a point late on after Matty Chadwick’s free-kick looked set to give the visitors the points.
With one game of the first season at this level left, Paul Carden’s side are guaranteed to finish no lower than 10th in the table.
Scott Bakkor had the first chance of the game when he forced Ashton keeper Luke Pilling into a good save, but the visitors were in front shortly after.
They were awarded a free-kick just outside the area and Chadwick bent the ball round the wall and past Yellows stopper Tony McMillan via the post.
McMillan was forced to save another Chadwick effort shortly after as Ashton put Town under pressure, with the keeper having to pull off another fine save on the stroke of half time to prevent his side falling further behind.
In a low key second half, the game sparked into life in the final five minutes.
After Pilling went walkabout, the ball was laid back to Lewis Codling and Bakare rose highest to head the ball into the empty net for his first Yellows goal.
Lee Knight then spurned a great chance for Ashton to win it, but Yellows held on for a point.
Warrington Town: McMillan, Duggan (Codling), Askew, Ventre, McCarten, Gumbs, Vassallo, Smart, Hattersley (Monaghan), Bakkor (Bakare), Harries. Subs not used: A Carden, Shaw.
