THE performances of Longford footballer Jesse Lingard have earned him a new contract with Manchester United.

The former William Beamont High School student has penned a new four-year deal to keep him at Old Trafford until at least 2021.

Lingard’s fresh terms mean the former Penketh United junior could now earn up to £100,000 per week.

“Manchester United has always been a big part of my life. I have been with the club since the age of seven and I feel great pride every time I pull the shirt on,” Lingard told the club’s official website.

“I would like to say a special thank you to the fans for the great support they have always given me and the team.”

Having made his debut for United on the opening day of the 2014/15 season, Lingard has gone on to make 70 appearances for them, scoring 11 goals.

Three of those goals have come in cup finals at Wembley Stadium, helping United to win the FA Cup, Community Shield and League Cup.

“He has good intelligence which, when combined with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a great future ahead of him,” United manager Jose Mourinho added.

“Jesse is a popular member of the squad and I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”
