Barwell 0 Warrington Town 2.

WARRINGTON Town picked up a vital three points at Barwell on Saturday as the race for an Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off place heats up.

Despite Dan Hattersley being sent off in the second half, Yellows held onto the advantage given to them before the break by Craig Stanley’s own goal.

In fact, they even extended their lead as Warrington-born Scott Bakkor scored his first goal since joining the club.

After Brady Hicky had put a header straight at visiting keeper Tony McMillan and Lewis Codling had blasted an effort wide at the other end, Yellows took the lead in fortuitous fashion.

After McMillan had pumped the ball long, a mix-up between Stanley and Barwell stopper Liam Castle led to the defender heading the ball into his own net under no pressure.

That gave Town something to hold onto, but their hopes of victory took a blow with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Having already been booked, Hattersley booted the ball away having been caught offside and was subsequently shown a second yellow card.

Yellows resisted bravely with 10 men and extended their lead when substitute Bakkor chased onto a long ball, shook off his marker and calmly slotted home the goal to seal victory.

Warrington Town: McMillan, Duggan, Askew, Williams, McCarten, Gumbs, Codling (Monaghan), Smart, Hattersley, Jerome (Bakkor), Vassallo (Ventre). Subs not used: Sherlock, Shaw.
