PAUL Carden says tonight’s game against Spennymoor Town is the biggest of Warrington Town’s season simply because it is the next one.

Yellows welcome The Moors to Cantilever Park with both sides sitting in the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off places.

Due to Spennymoor having three games in hand on Warrington, it is unlikely to stay that way and Carden says they will give their opponents the appropriate respect.

“Every game now becomes the biggest of the season because of the position we’ve put ourselves in,” he said.

“All we can get out of the Spennymoor game is another three points.

“We will give them the respect they deserve because they are a quality outfit.”

The game was meant to be played on December 29, but cold weather over the festive period rendered the Cantilever Park pitch unplayable.

A LOOK AT THE OPPOSITION:

SPENNYMOOR arrive at Cantilever Park for a battle of two sides who have adapted superbly after winning promotion last season.

While Yellows ploughed relentlessly towards the Evo-Stik First Division North title, The Moors were their closest rivals throughout and joined them in the Premier Division via the play-offs.

Due to a fixture backlog, Jason Ainley’s side still have nine games of their season to play and hold their destiny very much in their own hands.

They are protecting a four-game unbeaten run although their 1-1 home draw with lowly Halesowen on Saturday will be seen as two vital points dropped.

WHAT ODDS A DRAW?

YELLOWS have yet to record a stalemate from 20 league games at Cantilever Park this season but face one of the divisions away draw specialists.

The Moors have shared the spoils on seven occasions away from home this season, only Barwell (eight) have more away draws in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Ainley’s men are notoriously hard to beat on the road having only lost on five occasions away from the Brewery Field, with only Nantwich (four) losing fewer.

ONES TO WATCH:

Warrington Town – Dylan Vassallo: The teenage midfielder seems to have found a role as an impact substitute in Paul Carden’s side.

Whether playing on the wing or through the middle, Vassallo’s technical ability sets him apart. Expect to see him introduced at some point in the second half to wreak havoc.

Spennymoor Town – Graeme Armstrong: A veteran of non-league football in the north east, the 33-year-old striker has the nous and ability to cause Yellows’ miserly defence some problems.

Armstrong can list Blyth Spartans and Darlington among his former clubs and has scored 12 goals for The Moors this season.

LAST MEETING:

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

YELLOWS’ first away game in their new division handed them a grim reality check.

Graeme Armstrong scored twice for the hosts, while David Dowson and Tom Craddock were also on target.

Gerard Kinsella grabbed a consolation goal for Yellows, who made the long trip home from the Brewery Field empty-handed.

This was Yellows’ team that night:

Wills, Turner, Clancy (Grogan), O’Donnell, McCarten, Ventre, Harries (Winder), Kinsella, Kilheeney (Deegan), Dean, Metcalfe. Subs not used: Rudge, Gillespie.
