WARRINGTON Town Reserves were glad the weather did not halt their progress as their charge towards the Cheshire League One title continued on Saturday.

Steve Hayes’ side were comfortable 4-0 victors over neighbours Grappenhall Sports in one of the only Cheshire League games played as rain wiped out nearly all the league’s games.

The league leaders were in control at half time as goals from John Edge and Joe Coombs gave them a two-goal cushion.

Connor Speed and substitute Euan Woods rounded off the scoring for Hayes’ men, whose game against Golborne last night, Wednesday, was postponed.

They are not in action on Saturday but have another home game on Wednesday when they play Mersey Valley, kick off 7.45pm.

Eagle Sports, Rylands and Greenalls PSO were all meant to be at home on Saturday, but their games against Knutsford, Whaley Bridge and Malpas respectively were all postponed.

Daten’s trip to Tarporley Victoria also fell victim to the weather, as did Orford’s home game against Windle Labour.

Cheshire League fixtures, Saturday, kick off 3pm:

Premier Division: Greenalls PSO v Garswood United, Rylands v Eagle Sports.

League One: AFC Macclesfield v Grappenhall Sports, Daten v Egerton.

League Two: Ford Motors v Moore United, Orford v Winstanley Warriors.
