WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden says the better team won through in the end in their 2-1 victory over Frickley Athletic.

Dan Hattersley’s 88th-minute winner moved Yellows up to fourth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table after Jay McCarten had earlier cancelled out Adam Priestley’s opener.

Carden admitted his frustration with Frickley’s game plan but was pleased his players kept going until the end.

“If we win every game like that, we’ll take it,” he said.

“I think they came for a point, they were wasting time from the first minute.

“They tried to kill the game and I don’t get that, especially when you’re at the same level as the opposition.

“They will probably go home thinking they should have got a point but not for me, we were the only side with any attacking intent.

“You’ve got to keep going until the end and we did that. With the players we’ve got, we’re always going to be in games and its credit to the lads that they kept going.”

It looked like turning into a frustrating afternoon for Yellows as Frickley’s organised defence thwarted them and they looked to be denied a strong case for a penalty in the second half.

However, substitute Hattersley was their saviour and Carden said the striker can count his blessings for scoring the winner.

“Hatts needed that goal as he was getting both barrels off me for a free kick he gave away in the corner,” he said.

“I always tell the lads to be better than the referees and not to make them make decisions.

“We were cheap with our fouls and offsides in the first half and that allowed them to play their game plan out.

“I wouldn’t call it laziness, we just weren’t switched on and that let them off the hook a bit.”
