GRAPPENHALL Sports were the biggest winners on a limited day of Cheshire League action on Saturday of they moved off the bottom of League One.

In what must go down as their best performance of the season, the hosts stunned in-form Mersey Valley to record a 4-1 victory to climb off the foot of the table for the first time this season.

Paul Hulmes and James McCarthy both scored twice to secure Grappers’ second victory of the campaign to move them above Cheadle Town Reserves.

On a weekend where the adverse weather conditions took their toll, Moore United were the only other Warrington side in action.

They held brief hopes of beating higher-ranked Pilkington when Ryan Barnes equalised, but they eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat in the President’s Cup.
