Warrington Town 2 Coalville Town 1

RUBEN Jerome came off the bench to win the game for Warrington Town for a second time in a week as they beat Coalville Town 2-1.

After scoring the winner at Stourbridge on Monday night, Jerome went one better, scoring a brace to bring the Yellows back from a goal down to record a fourth successive win.

For large parts of the game, it looked like Warrington would be left frustrated as they struggled to break down Coalville until Jerome’s late show which adds further momentum to their climb up the table.

The Yellows were unchanged from their credible midweek win, but were behind inside 10 minutes when Rory Coleman was left with a tap in thanks to Messiah McDonald’s header back across goal from a cross.

Neither side really got to grips with the game in the first half, with the Yellows restricted to a couple of snatched half chances, Connor McCarthy slicing one wide and Daniel Hattersley’s shot blocked.

Warrington were lucky to get away with a couple of shaky defensive moments, conceding possession in their own half, while Coalville right back Kyle Bryant was causing problems.

After the break, it was up to the Yellows to find something from the game, but they struggled to create anything of note.

Sean Williams had a few free-kicks come to nothing, before a deep corner was headed just wide by Evan Gumbs at the back post.

Coalville had a golden opportunity to secure the points on 78 minutes when they hit on the counter attack, left-back Lee Torr going a long way and having a right-foot shot well saved by Tony McMillan’s legs.

Then it was Jerome’s time to steal the show. Fellow substitute Dylan Vassallo released Scott Harries, and after he was wiped out in the box, the ball fell for Jerome to sweep home with just eight minutes to play.

There was only going to be one winner after that, and Jerome made sure that one point was turned in to three on 87 minutes when he curled a wonderful left-foot shot in to the far corner from 20 yards.

It’s a third win in eight days for the Yellows, who take their renewed play-off hopes to local rivals Nantwich Town on Tuesday night.
