WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden says the performance of his new signings has made picking a team for Saturday’s trip to Buxton a difficult task.

Yellows go into the game riding high after a pair of 2-0 home wins inside a week, against Skelmersdale United in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Saturday and Tranmere Rovers in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Carden rested several players for the cup game and gave debuts to defender Josh Askew, midfielder Michael Monaghan and striker Ruben Jerome.

The Yellows boss said their showings against his former employers had given him something to think about ahead of Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 3pm.

“We’ve had a few lads who started against Skem who didn’t play against Tranmere who will all be in contention again,” he said.

“Evan Gumbs didn’t play, Sam Ilesanmi didn’t play and neither did Ciaran Kilheeney so there are players there who can come in and start.

“For the new lads that came in, it was important for them to get off to a good start and I’m pleased with a lot of the performances.

“It was important that the lads who came in made a statement and made my decision to pick the team on Saturday that little bit tougher.

“Ruben was unlucky not to have a hat-trick. He hit the woodwork twice and the keeper has been in the right place to get in the way of one from point-blank range.

“He looked lively and a threat when he was playing on the shoulder and getting in behind.

“Michael gives us something that we haven’t really had in midfield. He likes to drive forward, run in straight lines, get beyond forwards and score goals.

“He’ll get more used to us the more he trains and plays with us and we’ll hopefully get the best out of his attributes.”

Town are now unbeaten in three games in all competitions since the turn of the year and have kept clean sheets in all three games.

Carden also has Tuesday’s rearranged home game against Marine, kick off 7.45pm, to contend with, but for now, his focus is solely on Buxton, who sit fifth in the table having lost just one home game all season.

“What a good place it would be to go and get three points to continue our run,” he said.

“Buxton have been doing well, I know the staff there in Macca (manager Martin McIntosh) and Tim Ryan.

“They were both fiery players and that’s how they’ll want their team to play.

“They will be fired up, they will want their lads to put a marker down to cement their place in the play-off places and even challenge for the title.”
