PAUL Carden wants his Warrington Town players to make winning “a habit” as they look to stretch their recent run by beating Buxton on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

After seeing off Skelmersdale United in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Saturday, Yellows secured a 2-0 victory over a youthful Tranmere Rovers side at Cantilever Park on Tuesday night to reach the quarter-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Tuesday’s win made it three games unbeaten in all competitions in 2017, but Carden says his team have only taken “small steps” towards their goal.

“Confidence comes with playing and winning, and winning breeds more winning,” he said.

“I’ve told the players that we need to make it a habit and make it become part of us.

“We want to be able to turn up, work hard and win games because we’re good footballers.

“It is three games unbeaten and three clean sheets but it is only a very small step in where we want to get to.”

Samuel Ilesanmi and Lewis Codling were on target in the 2-0 win over Skelmersdale on Saturday, while Jon Shaw and Scott Metcalfe hit the net to see off Tranmere.

The National League outfit, Carden’s former club, brought a young squad to Cantilever Park and the Yellows boss was pleased with how his side handled the game.

“It was important that we treated the game right. I knew a few days ago that Tranmere were bringing a young side,” he said.

“A lot of their youth team played but it was important for the lads who are established here did the right things.”
