YELLOWS boss Paul Carden says his side are in danger of getting dragged down the Evo-Stik Premier Division table if they continue to drop points to sides below them.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Barwell, who sit eight places below Town in the table, was their fifth home reverse of the season.

They are currently tenth in the league ahead of two more games at Cantilever Park, against relegation-threatened Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday and promotion-chasing Blythe Spartans on Tuesday.

“We don’t want to be in a situation where we’re looking over our shoulders,” Carden said.

“Things need to change quickly. There are a lot of teams in this league fighting for their lives and we can’t keep giving them points or we’ll end up being dragged into that fight.

“Our defensive frailties shone through again on Saturday. It’s something we’re working on and will keep working on until we get it right.”

Only four sides have scored more league goals than Town’s tally of 33 but, of the teams in the top half of the division, only Ashton United (36) have conceded more than Warrington.

They led at half-time on Saturday through Jay McCarten’s goal and had several chances to double their lead, but Barwell took advantage of Town’s profligacy to turn the game around.

Carden says his team need to learn how to manage games better if they are to compete at the top end of the table.

“We had more than enough chances to win the game on Saturday but didn’t take them,” he said.

“In that situation, you need to be able to manage the opposition and grind out a result.

“We need to be mentally stronger. I know there is a resilience in the squad because I’ve seen it at Stafford Rangers.

“There’s more than enough goals in the side but we’re in mid-table for a reason. We’re leaking too many goals and that needs to change.”
