Ashton United 2 Warrington Town 0

AN under-strength Town side bowed out of the Integro League Cup on Tuesday night as they were comfortably beaten at Ashton.

Goals in either half from Jody Banim and Rio Murray were enough to eliminate a Yellows side that made ten changes from Saturday’s league win over Rushall.

With manager Paul Carden absent, assistant boss Craig Robinson took charge but his side were quickly on the back foot.

They fell behind early on when Banim got in behind the inexperienced defence and slotted past Karl Wills.

Despite having plenty of possession, Town struggled to create chances and failed to test home stopper Ritchie Branagan.

Wills saved well from Jack Dorney after the break but the second goal wasn’t long in coming. The dangerous Lee Knight made inroads down the right wing and crossed for unmarked substitute Murray, who made no mistake from eight yards.

Warrington Town: Wills, Wylie (Marzetti), Lambert, Gillespie, Reynolds, Coombs, Codling (Edgerton), Hayes (Humphries), Speed, Ludgate, Harries. Sub not used: Robinson.
