EAGLE Sports climbed off the Cheshire Football League Premier Division bottom spot with a ‘derby’ victory over Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds.

The Thornton Road side netted the only goal of the second half to run out 4-2 victors.

Scorers for Eagle, who visit 12th-placed Rudheath Social on Saturday, were Owen Ellis, Lee Boardman, Chris Quirk and Danny Nixon.

Rylands’ 1-1 home draw with Altrincham Reserves, courtesy of an equaliser from Jordan Rigby, prevented the visitors from moving up to second, with Darren Davies’ side staying 11th ahead of Saturday’s visit to lowly Malpas.

Davies said: “I thought we showed great spirit in what was a really high quality game of football.

"Altrincham are a very good side and I felt we more than matched them which I’m really pleased with.

"We were unlucky to go in a goal down at the break after they hit us with a devastating counter attack, but beyond that I felt that we created the better chances in the game.

"In the second half we took the game to them and Jordan scored a very good goal.

"The game was really open in the closing stages as both sides looked to nick it.

"They will feel that a point was probably fair, but I think we did enough to deserve to win the game.

"However, taking the positives, we’re constantly improving and I’m confident that with the team we’ve built, we’ll start climbing the league table quickly.”

League One leaders Warrington Town Reserves were 5-1 winners at Windle Labour in the JA Walton League One and Two Challenge Cup.

Moore United lost 2-1 at home to Cuddington in League Two.
