A CHESHIRE Inter-League side featuring eight players from Warrington clubs defeated West Cheshire to lift the Cooper Smith Cup.

Rylands pair James Sinker and Jordan Rigby, along with Warrington Town's Josh Hayes and Eagle Sports' Adam Coleman were in the starting line-up, while Daniel Wilcock (Orford FC), Jack Trubshaw (Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds), Adam Reynolds and Jack Richards (both Warrington Town) were introduced off the bench in the 2-0 success.

Rigby scored the second goal, smashing a penalty into the top corner of the net to follow on from a strike by Poynton's Rick Tindall.

Late withdrawals by players for the final did not faze the Cheshire team, which pleased manager Jimmy Bush.

"That's the most resolute I've seen us," he said.

"West Cheshire are a strong side and we limited them to very few real chances. I'm really happy about that.

"We had a few debutants and all were superb. If we take this kind of performance into the Jeff Walton Cup games we'll give ourselves a really good chance of more trophies and a good run in the National Cup."

Former Greenalls manager Bush highlighted more big games ahead for his men.

Bush said: "We have the semi final of the Jeff Walton Cup – the old North West Cup – coming up, and we are the holders after beating Manchester in the final 3-1 last season.

"There's no official date for that yet though. We are waiting for the game between Chester and District and West Lancs to be played.

"We are hopeful it will be before Christmas though as the National Cup begins in the new year so we'd like to have it done before that.

"Our next get together will be a training session at Manchester City's Etihad complex early in December."
