NEW Warrington Town boss Paul Carden says the club’s ambition enticed him back into management.

Former Rochdale, Chester and Cambridge midfielder Carden has managerial experience with Southport but had been coaching at Tranmere Rovers before being appointed by the Yellows yesterday.

Carden will be assisted by ex-Town striker Mark Beesley and replaces Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith, who parted company with the club on October 15.

The 37-year-old arrives at Cantilever Park with the club sixth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table, two points outside the play-off places, and says he is looking forward to developing all aspects of the club.

“I was at a massive club in Tranmere and I said I’d only be tempted back into management by a club with ambition and Warrington has that,” he said.

“Everyone knows about the FA Cup run and promotion but the chairman says they don’t want to rest there.

“The people here want to take the club onto another level and I was excited by the chance to be part of it.”

After promotion from the Evo-Stik First Division North last season, Town are currently playing at their highest ever level but have made an inconsistent start to their season.

Town have already lost eight games this season despite their lofty position in the table but Carden says there is no need for “drastic” changes to the squad.

The new boss also says there are plenty of examples that show there can be “no ceiling” on how far the club can go.

“I’ve seen a lot of the players in action for different clubs so I know what they are about,” he said.

“I know what we need in terms of personnel. We could do with tightening up at the back but we don’t need drastic changes,” he said.

“If you look at teams like Fleetwood and AFC Fylde locally, they were small clubs built up from nothing and have gone on to achieve massive things.”

“I wouldn’t want to put a ceiling on where we could go. With the size of Warrington as a town, there’s no reason why we can’t go far.”

Carden and Beesley will be in the dugout for Town’s home FA Trophy clash with Nantwich on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
