LONGFORD footballer Jesse Lingard is celebrating after winning a call-up to the England squad on Sunday.

The 23-year-old, a former pupil at William Beamont High School, was named in interim manager Gareth Southgate’s first selection for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Ex-Penketh United junior Lingard will win his first senior international cap if he appears in either game after playing 11 times for England under 21s.

After scoring the winner for Manchester United in May’s FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace at Wembley, Lingard has made five appearances for the Red Devils so far this season.
