SCOTT Metcalfe has returned to Warrington Town.

The frontman appeared in the Yellows’ latest pre-season win at Mossley on Tuesday.

At the end of last season Metcalfe, pictured right, turned down a deal to stay and he was replaced in the squad by Sean Clancy from AFC Telford.

But, after failing to settle at Ashton United, Metcalfe is back on board after having played a key role, mainly on the left flank, in the club’s promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League top flight.

Metcalfe was involved in the build-up to Ciaran Kilheeney’s opening goal against Mossley, while Steven Gillespie also notched in the 2-0 win.

Town complete their pre-season programme at Hyde tonight, Thursday, and at home to Ryman League North Division side VCD Athletic from Crayford, Kent, on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Mellish’s men will start their Premier Division campaign at home to Stourbridge on Saturday, August 13.

A youthful Yellows team defeated Lisburn outfit Crewe United 2-0 to regain the Peace Cup on Saturday.

Town took the lead the lead on the stroke of half time, with unmarked striker Connor Speed slotting home from a rebound.

The hosts sealed the game with nine minutes left, ex-Blackburn Rovers player Zac Aley rising to head home full back John Marzetti’s excellent curling cross.

Connor Burn came closest to halving the deficit late on but could only shoot weakly at home goalkeeper Nathan Butler.
