WARRINGTON Town face a tough opening contest in the 2016-17 FA Trophy.

Stuart Mellish’s side, who start their pre-season campaign at home to Football League outfit Carlisle United on Wednesday, kick off 7pm, will tackle Nantwich Town at home in the first qualifying round on Saturday, October 29.

The Dabbers were beaten semi-finalists in last year's competition, eventually falling 6-4 to Halifax over two legs after seeing off Salford, King’s Lynn, Stockport, Matlock, Bradford PA, Stourbridge and Dover in earlier rounds.

On the back of promotion to the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, the Yellows, who reached the third qualifying round of the Trophy last term with wins over Ossett Town, Brighouse Town and Basford United before falling to AFC Fylde, will also meet Nantwich in league matches next season.

League fixtures are yet to be announced but Town will be in friendly action again on Saturday, July 16, at Brickfield Rangers and then on Tuesday, July 19 at Colne - a fixture that replaces the originally scheduled trip to Nelson.
