Hoop and Mallet 2 Oakwood 0

HOOP and Mallet won their first silverware since 2005 as they were victorious over Oakwood in the Warrington Sunday Football League Premier Cup Final.

In front of a sizeable crowd at the Grange Sports Club in Latchford, goals from Alan Tiebout and Craig Hoyland secured their first ever domestic trophy having won an international tournament back in 2005.

The win puts the club on a massive high ahead of their next cup final on Sunday, May 8, against Turf and Feather.

Hoop started the game on the front foot and took the early lead their play deserved through Tiebout in the tenth minute.

They went on to dominate the first half, with Hoyland particularly prominent on the left wing, but they could not force another breakthrough despite creating plenty of chances as the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half started in a similar vein, with Hoop in control but Oakwood were starting to pose a bit more of a threat.

However, they were restricted to mainly long-range efforts as the Hoop defence held their opponents at arms’ length.

The game was settled ten minutes from time in extraordinary circumstances, with Hoyland’s corner flying straight into the corner of the net.

It was a well-deserved victory and puts the team in confident mood ahead of their clash with Turf and Feather.
