Warrington Town 2 Brighouse Town 0

TOWN are just four points away from clinching the title after grinding out a 2-0 home victory over Brighouse Town in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division..

A second-half effort from striker Steven Gillespie completed the mission at Cantilever Park on Saturday after a penalty from skipper Ciaran Kilheeney a minute before the break set them on their way.

Four points from their remaining four games will see them be crowned champions.

Town were denied an early advantage by Brighouse keeper Hagreem, who prevented Beattie scoring with a header on five minutes with a finger tip save, blocked a powerful shot from Metcalfe on 11 minutes and then prevented Kilheeney from adding to his considerable tally in 2015-16.

Brighouse came close to scoring on 31 minutes when an acrobatic overhead kick from Boafo hit the top of the cross bar.

Hagreen went from hero to villain a minute before the interval when he brought down Joe Holt in the box as he was running away from goal.

Up stepped Kilheeney to calmly send the keeper the wrong way to score from the spot making it 1-0 at the break.

Chances were few and far between in the second half but Gillespie settled Warrington’s nerves in the 79th minute when he back heeled the ball into the back of the net from a corner which the Brighouse defence failed to clear.
