WARRINGTON Town’s title pursuit continues at Prescot Cables on Saturday.
All three contenders for the automatic promotion spot won at the weekend, with Yellows overcoming struggling Ossett Town 2-1 at home, nearest rivals Spennymoor Town defeating Prescot 3-0 and third-placed Northwich Victoria smashing Kendal Town 5-0 away.
That left Town 19 points clear at the summit of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North, though that was cut to 16 when Spennymoor beat Mossley 4-1 on Tuesday night in one of their three catch-up games.
Vics remain 22 points behind after losing 1-0 at home to Scarborough Athletic last night, Wednesday, and have three games in hand.
As things stand, if all three title contenders win their remaining games, Town would be crowned champions at Glossop North End on April 9.
Town, currently needing five wins from their remaining eight games to take the top spot (whether Vics are successful in having a nine-point deduction reversed or not), head to a Prescot side that has lost only the one game in their last eight outings.
It is the first meeting between the teams this season and two goals from Town would give them a ton in the league, having already broken the goals in a season record.
The next home game for Stuart Mellish’s side is against Witton Albion on Easter Monday.
