South Liverpool 4 Eagle Sports 1

HOLDERS Eagle Sports bowed out of this season's Liverpool CFA Challenge Cup on Saturday with a convincing 4-1 defeat at West Cheshire League side South Liverpool FC.

Hampered by traffic issues en route to the game, kick off was delayed by 15 minutes but even then it meant some of the Eagle team were thrown straight into action upon arrival.

That did not seem to affect the Warrington side, playing only their third game since November, as they started well.

Keeper Craig Clare made an excellent save after the hosts were awarded a penalty, and Eagle responded by going straight down the other end to take the lead.

A diagonal free kick from captain Adam Coleman found Nathan Williams, whose header looped over the home keeper.

The lead only lasted 10 minutes.

Clare made a fine initial save from a breakaway but the ball was bundled home from the rebound, and five minutes later it was 2-1 after possession was given away.

South Liverpool added a third before the break after some slack defending.

Ged McAllister and substitute Lee Boardman had second-half chances but neither were able to convert before a fourth from Liverpool sealed the visitors' fate.
