SHAUN Reid says Warrington Town will not be feeling the pressure when title rivals Northwich Victoria visit today, Saturday.

The Yellows hold a three-point lead over the visitors ahead of the Cantilever Park clash, kick off 3pm, but Jim Gannon’s Vics side boast four games in hand.

Reid would rather have the points, having previously watched promotion slip from Town’s grasp when tasked with catching up on games in recent seasons.

“We’re the leading goalscorers and top of the league by three points,” said the 50-year-old.

“They have got games in hand, but we’ve been in that position before and it didn’t come to fruition.

"Of course, they will be saying the opposite. There’s no pressure yet, that comes in the last month of the season, and there are still plenty of games to play.”

Gannon suggested this week it is still the Yellows who are chasing his Northwich team, but Reid disagrees.

“It means he thinks he’s going to win all his football matches and I like that confidence,” added the former Rochdale midfielder.

“But they’ve got to play me twice and I don’t think they will win all their games; Warrington and Northwich are not the only two good teams in this league.

“Mr Gannon may think we need to close the gap, but they are three points behind. So Saturday will go a long way to deciding the title, but it’s by no means decisive.”

Reid has stressed the importance of earning promotion this season and hopes a healthy following will turn out for a game he labelled “bigger than against Exeter”.

More than 2,000 witnessed Town’s FA Cup giant-killing heroics that night, and Reid promises another cup final atmosphere.

“It’s a massive game for the town and we’ve been trying to bang the drum for this football club and want a successful one,” said Reid, who expects to choose from a fully fit squad.

“It’s going to be a battle as that’s what football is all about. It’s not about this tippy-tappy stuff that sends us to sleep on Match of the Day on a Saturday night.

“We will be well organised, ready for it and come 3 o’clock on Saturday it’s a cup final.”
