Ossett Town 0 Warrington Town 4

WARRINGTON Town will head into their titanic tussle with Northwich Victoria next Saturday as table toppers thanks to this latest goal-fest victory.

The Yellows, who took their goal tally to 19 in five games while conceding only four, opened up a three-point gap at the top of Evo-Stik First Division North thanks to goals from Nathan Burke, Chris Gahgan, Ciaran Kilheeney and Jay McCarten.

Shaun Reid's men also extended their unbeaten league run to nine games.

Northwich now have a fourth game in hand on their title rivals after their clash with Glossop North End was one of many in the division postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The pitch at Ossett Town was tough going too and despite Warrington having most of the possession chances were limited to one easily saved effort from Kilheeney in the opening half hour.

But Town’s dominance of the ball paid dividends on 35 minutes when Burke fired home from 12 yards.

Three minutes after the break the Yellows doubled their lead, Gahgan finishing from an acute angle.

Daniel O’Donnell headed on to the crossbar on 53 minutes and two minutes later Ben Deegan had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for off-side.

Ossett then had their best spell of the game, forcing three consecutive corners but Warrington’s defence stood firm.

Town countered and Deegan was pulled down in the box giving birthday boy Kilheeney the opportunity to score from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.

This signalled the introduction of recent signing Joe Holt to come off the bench for Gahgan and he almost scored with his first touch but was denied by the keeper.

Ben Wharton, for Deegan, and Warren Beattie, for Kilheeney, were introduced for the closing stages as Warrington continued to dominate.

They eventually added a fourth when McCarten headed over the advancing keeper into an empty net.

Warrington are back in action on Tuesday in the Cheshire Cup when they are at home to North West Counties side Northwich Manchester Villa, kick off 7.45pm, before the home game many are billing as a “title showdown” with Northwich Victoria next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
