PREMIER League club Everton will extend their festive cheer as far as Cantilever Park this Christmas, when they lend Shaun Reid’s Warrington Town side a helping hand.

The promotion-chasing Yellows host Mossley on Saturday, kick off 3pm, with a Boxing Day trip to Witton Albion coming two days before Trafford visit a week on Monday.

With their usual LiveWire training facility unavailable, the Warrington boss has exercised his Everton connections – initially forged during brother and former England midfielder Peter’s seven-year stint at Goodison Park – to give his side a Premier League-style present.

And the Toffees will host Town at their Finch Farm training base.

“I’ve spoken to Roberto Martinez and they have lent us a training facility through the Christmas period,” explained Reid.

“A lot of the council-run places shut down over the festive period, so we will have Finch Farm for a few days which is brilliant.

“They do help us out when they can. I’ve known Bill Kenwright (chairman) for a long time from when Peter played at Everton and had a few dealings with Roberto when we played against each other.”

Reid, whose spell with a football agency also put him in contact with Martinez during the Spaniard's time as Wigan Athletic boss, expressed his thanks to the club.

“He’s doing a great job there and I can only thank the club – they’re not called the People’s Club for nothing,” added the ex-Rochdale, Bury and York City midfielder.

“It’s brilliant and Roberto’s been magnificent with us. I’m not sure how many managers at Premier League clubs would do what Everton do for us.”

Town’s scheduled trip to Reid’s former employers Prescot Cables was postponed due to the weather on Saturday, but they hope to return to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North action against Peter Band’s Mossley.

“They are always big, strong and physical and play in a certain way,” said the 50-year-old.

“They’re well organised and Bandy the manager has a very competitive nature – it’s the way he played and his team are the same.

“I think we’ve shown against two of the tougher teams that play physically, Glossop and Spennymoor, that we are a match for them.

“We will be again on Saturday if every man wins their battle, and hopefully the conditions are better.

“We’ll go man for man and hope everyone does their job. We’ve got enough ability in our team to match and beat most sides in our league.”
