SHAUN Reid is confident he has found a strikeforce that can fire Warrington Town to glory this season.

Ciaran Kilheeney netted his 11th goal of the season in the Yellows’ 2-0 FA Trophy win against Brighouse Town on Saturday, with defender James McCarten grabbing the other.

Reid paired Town skipper Kilheeney with former Droylsden teammate Ben Deegan in September and one of the duo has been on target in all but two of the Yellows’ nine games since.

“He’s captain now and he’s been absolutely outstanding,” said Reid of the Yellows’ leading scorer.

“The one thing you get from Ciaran is 100 per cent every game.

"He works his socks off and always knows where the net is.

“He’s a good finisher and big Ben Deegan is the perfect foil for him. They’ve been together at Droyslden and formed a good partnership and are doing exactly the same.

“Ben Wharton has played his part too. He’s been short on goals but played in the reserves last week and scored six.

“You need two players to get you 20 to 30 goals and I have definitely got that in Deegs and Ciaran. Those strikers are hard to find and we have taken on two who have scored throughout their careers.”

Ben Deegan on target for the Yellows

While Kilheeney scored in Saturday’s win, which sets up a second qualifying round tie with Basford United, it was wide men Scott Metcalfe and Chris Gahgan who impressed the boss most.

“I expect and ask them to get through a hell of a lot of work to be fair to them,” added Reid.

“It was a good all-round performance and the keeper (Karl Wills) had to make a few saves, but I expect that of him and he stepped up to the plate.

“The defence looked solid, the midfield were workmanlike and up front we have players who can cause problems.”

Second-placed Town now switch focus back to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North, with Bamber Bridge the visitors to Cantilever Park on Saturday.

“We owe them one because we should have won at their place (2-2) and missed some unbelievable chances,” he added.

“We are up there and we want to stay up there, so we need to win most of our games. They have got a decent squad and I expect them to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“We are a decent side and as long as my players believe in what we are doing we will give people problems. Especially at home.

“I want to win the title, that’s what I’m here for.”
